HISTORY

Not Too Tame was founded in 2008 by Jimmy Fairhurst during his second year of actor training at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama.

Not Too Tame came out of Jimmy's desire to create well crafted, entertaining and socially important work that appealed to a working class community. Money, subject matter and a misrepresentation of the working class are all factors that Jimmy believes have helped distance people from the arts; challenging this is a key driving force in his work today.

Choosing the correct piece to launch the Company was incredibly important. After discussions with the writer, Jimmy was delighted to have been personally approved the rights by Trevor Griffiths for his stage play 'Oi For England' (Cardiff and Edinburgh Fringe Festival). The Anti-Facist play about a skin-punk band from Manchester was the perfect vehicle to launch the company's raucous and passionate heart; a molotov cocktail of Comedy, Drama and live music.

Since then the company has gained invaluable experience working with passionate likeminded professionals as well as community projects such as 'The Conditions of the Working Class'

'Not Too Tame as we now know it  earned it's brand and reputation through our signature 5* production 'Early Doors'. This saw the company grow in size and aspiration. After it's initial concept by the Artistic Director, an ensemble company of some 11 actors from all across the UK developed and co wrote this award winning production.  Out of this, the joining of Andrew Butler, Louise Haggerty, Hanna Jarman, David Mumeni, as well as 13 Associate Artists, Not Too Tame has become the company as we see today.

Through our work with the creative ensemble, each sharing a voice at the table, it was decided that it was far more fitting for NTT to become a Theatre Company with a belief of 'Theatre for All'.

Today, 'Theatre for All' is our key stone, with a special focus on appealing to those who have little or no engagement with arts.

Not Too Tame will continue to entertain, celebrate and fight the corner of those without a voice!
